Cellular automata model for a contact problem

Abstract : The aim of this paper is to apply the cellular automata approach to the description of deformations of an elastic body and the frictionless contact between the body and a rigid foundation. The model is based on a microscopic approach and can be easily implemented. A numerical algorithm is constructed and simulation results are presented, illustrating the properties of the model and the behavior of its solutions.
